The students came into class today and the room had been transformed into The Doll People doll house!
We painted our own wooden dolls this morning!
The students chose a name for their wooden doll, and we made an acrostic poem using the doll’s name.
Our human, Kate- kept coming into the dollhouse to play with the dolls (us). So we had to run back to the last spot she left us, and pretend that we were just regular old dolls. Not LIVING dolls!
In the novel, Auntie Sarah went missing, and she happened to go missing this afternoon too! We had to do a lot of different things like Tangram puzzles, addition, reading fluently etc. to get a secret code, and find clues to eventually find her!
Storyboard prep- The students are in groups, and they are going to be making up their own stories. Tomorrow morning the students will be video taping their own stories with their own wooden dolls. Don’t worry, we will send them to SeeSaw so you can see them!
Science- discussed water cycle. Made a water cycle in a bag.
Table activity- Ms. Ausmus
Daily 5 Centres with Ms. Brace’s class
Social- Today we discussed residential schools, and why we celebrate orange shirt day. We talked about language and how First Nations students were not allowed to speak their own language at Residential Schools. So we did a little language activity where I made up words (pretending to be colours) and asked them to draw shapes in those made up words. They realized how hard it would be to participate in school when they didn’t know what the teacher was saying. I gave stickers to those kids who happened to guess my made up word. We talked about how it didn’t feel fair.
*Mrs. Maley is going to be teaching the students two full days Wednesday and Thursday, and she has a big surprise in store for them!
Arts Ed- The students finished their umbrella craft
Health- SGI was here to do a presentation on bike safety.
Math- Students continued learned how to borrow!
Quiet Time- We finished the novel, The Doll People. I surprised the students with an afternoon of watching Toy Story- so we could compare and contrast our novel about living dolls with a movie about living toys. More doll themed activities coming up this week!
*This Wednesday is going to be a litterless lunch. Students should try and bring food that doesn’t have any garbage.
Arts Ed- Students watched Rain on the Green Grass and identified the cloud types.
Daily 5- We had Centres with Ms. Brace’s class.
Quiet Time- We only have one chapter left in our novel!
Talking Circle- We had Madeline and Konrad’s talking circle today.
*Because we have mostly finished everyone’s Star of the Week, we are going to be moving into a Show and Tell time after the Easter break. Students will be able to bring something to show on their designated day. I will send out reminders closer to that time!
Math- Students worked on math stations. One of them was working on subtracting 1 digit from 2 digits.
Arts Ed- Students learned a “Rain on the Green Grass” song.
Daily 5- Today we worked on our PWIM poster and came up with words for them. I told them I was going to mark it, and the scoring would go as follows: To get a 4 (Excellent writer)- They needed to come up with 8 original sentences of their own about the poster. To get a 3 (Good writer), they would have to come up with 6 original sentences of their own. To get a 2 (progressing writer), they had to write 3/4 original sentences of their own about the poster. To get a 1 (beginning writer) they could copy the sentences from the board. If they didn’t finish their sentences, it is for homework. I am including the PWIM picture below.
Phys Ed- I taught the students how to play a very active version of kickball.
Music- Ms. Hendry
*Swimming tomorrow! Please have your child bring a towel, swimsuit, and a bag to put everything in.
**There is a Parent Expo on Thursday evening from 6-9, that I encourage all parents try to attend. There will be great advice and conversation/support.
