Bell Work

Math- Students reviewed skip counting with coins.

Arts Ed- Ms. Parker taught the students the 7 sacred animals and they made totem poles with them.

Carpet Time

Daily 5- Today we did our guided reading group Daily 5 Centres. Students are leveled according to their reading level, and they move from station to station with other children at their level. They travel to two teacher stations where they read a book at their level with Mrs. Papp and Mrs. Maley/Ms. Parker.

Recess

Talking Circle- Preston was our star of the week, and so we had a warm and fuzzy circle for him.

Social- The students had to post a Seesaw video about what would make them a good class leader. As soon as those are approved, they will be up!

*Book orders will be due this coming Monday, October 21st. If we order by Monday, they should be here in time for Halloween!

**Students have taken their squashes home today. Some of them are starting to get a bit squishy or moldy! It is up to the family if they want to bring it back next week, or keep it at home… eat it? bury it? Whatever you want to do with a squash!?

***No school tomorrow, Friday, October 18th! It’s another long weekend for students! We will see you Monday.

**** A note went home today about Education Week next week. Bagels and Books is happening next Thursday. Come early in the morning 8:15-8:50 and read with your child and enjoy a bagel on us!

Bell Work

Math- Gr. 1 students worked with ten frames. Gr. 2 students practiced skip counting with coins!

Recess

Health- Ms. Parker looked at a bunch of different religions and culture and talked about how the golden rule fits into all of them.

Daily 5 Centres- Today we changed out a couple centres, and the students learned a new app called ChatterKid which allows their squash to talk and tell stories! They also were allowed to work on writing and write in their Squash’s baby book.

Ms. Ausmus is away today, so Mrs. Maley was here the whole day.

Bell Work

Talking Circle- “I am thankful for.” It was so sweet watching the students share what they were thankful for.

Procedural writing- The students had an awesome lesson with Ms. Parker about how to blow a bubblegum bubble. They wrote 3 sentences of what to do first, next, and last.

Science- The students did a matching activity today where they had to find the adult and the baby match.

Lunch

Carpet Time

Work on Writing- Students blogged about their squash. They took a picture and then recorded their voice talking about their squash.

Phys Ed- Ms. Parker did a couple fun gym games.

Quiet Time- Kaden, our helper of the day, chose a book for us to read. It was Splat the Cat and the Snowy Day.

Bell Work

Math- Gr. 2 number line assessment. The students were supposed to skip count on the hundreds chart.

Gr. 1 number assessment- Students had to show a number in different ways: draw, manipulatives, word, numbers.

Squashes come alive! We drew faces on our squashes and gave them names today.

Makerspace- The students started a “Makerspace” today. This is a creative outlet time where kids are asked to create/make different useful items. They can use my supplies and cardboard. Today they had a job to do. Gr. 2’s had to build a bridge, building, statue, park, water fountain or road. Gr. 1’s had to build a toy, doll, or action figure.

Phys Ed- Ms. Parker taught the kids a “chicken run.”

Talking Circle for Ghina- We had a warm and fuzzy circle for Ghina today!

Field Trip this morning

Thanks for the parent helpers who were able to make it on our field trip this morning. The kids had a great time at the library and the Farmer’s Market. Unfortunately there weren’t a ton of vendors as it was so cold, so we just got to visit a couple of them.

Math- Students were continuing to look at numbers in different ways.

Arts Ed- Students created animal movements.

Quiet Time/Twitter- Ms. Parker read the students a story.

Social- The students talked about leaders today.

Home Time

*If you are able, please send some doll/baby accessories (headbands, bowties, blankets etc.) for our squashes!  We are going to be taking care of and naming our own squashes tomorrow! They will travel with the kids and take part in fun activities so that the students can write about all their adventures.

Math- Gr. 2 students filled in a 100’s chart today. Gr. 1’s wrote numbers in different ways.

Science- Ms. Parker talked about metamorphoses and life cycles.

Work on Writing- The students had a new centre today called “Topic journals.” It’s where they get to write a story on that topic. Example: Grumpy journal, Elf on the shelf, holidays etc.

*Don’t forget that tomorrow is our field trip! Please send $5 for a squash! We will be going to the Central Library first, and then to the Farmer’s Market. It is supposed to be cold though, so please send a warm jacket and maybe even some little mittens or a toque for the kids as we walk around.

Math- Students were looking at number questions. They were also matching the number words to the digit.

Science- Ms. Parker did a lesson on life cycles today of different animals.

Arts Ed- Ms. Hendry

Carpet Time- We added a new slide today called “Repeat After Me.” Jade, our helper of the day got to pick a level she was comfortable with, and then she had to repeat my sentence exactly as I repeated it!

Recess

Social- Ms. Parker taught a lesson on communities. The students got to brainstorm different communities that they are a part of!

If money is the issues, please just let me know and we will work it out! On Wednesday, please send $5 with your child to purchase a squash from the farmer’s market.
