Math- Students were introduced to Measurement today.
Science- The students did a float or sink experiment.
Table Activity- Students worked on rolling and writing their words of the week.
Daily 5- The students did Read to Self/Read to Someone and then any of the Daily 5 options.
Carpet Time- We have been talking about advertisements all month, but today we moved to looking at media messages. The kids watched the Gaston song from Beauty and the Beast, and Snow White’s whistle while you work. The students were able to pick out different gender stereotypes of what culture tells us boys or girls should be.
Social- The students finished their prairie landscape picture. If they were not finished, they needed to take it home for homework. Their job was to draw a prairie landscape that was inspired by “If You’re Not From the Prairie” by David Bouchard. They are supposed to write one sentence explaining to me their prairie landscape picture.

*** thanks to Megan who reminded me to update Raz Kids with the chikdren’s new reading levels. There were quite a few kids who haven’t logged on in a while, or at all. This is an amazing free resource that our parent council has bought for our school. Don’t forget to have your child login if you want some extra leveled reading at home!
Buddies- Students worked on their products. They are going to “pitch” their products to us next week during Buddies.
Quiet Time- Madeline chose a book for us to read.
Twitter/Blog- We read some of our new blog comments from our blogging buddies today.
Social- Since we have been talking about advertisements and media messages, today I read the students the book called “Good Pictures Bad Pictures”. This book talks about how sometimes kids can come across bad pictures on TV, iPads, devices, and in magazines etc. It talks about what is private, and how they should never take pictures of private parts or see pictures of other people’s private parts. We discussed how sometimes there might be inappropriate videos that pop up on Youtube, or somewhere else and what they should do. The book gives the directions of TURN RUN TELL. The child should turn their eyes from the picture, run away and tell a trusted adult. This is a great resource for protecting children against pornography and other inappropriate things they might come across online. There is also a version of this book for older kids. Something to think about if you have older children and want to bring up this conversation. Let me know if you have any questions! I’d be happy to answer them!
Math- Students continued working on their math problems.
Table Activity- Students worked on their vocabulary sentences.
Daily 5- Students worked on all Daily 5 options while I tested a few more kids on their reading.
Table Activity- Branson and Jane read us their News duotangs. The students then wrote in their News Duotangs. Try to remember to write back! I know it sometimes seems like a lot of work. But I promise that it will be a great keepsake between the two of you in years to come.
