I tried to call everyone yesterday, but I missed some of you. I will be attempting to get a hold of you again today if I missed you. It was so great to speak to many of you yesterday.

Moving forward, Ms. Ausmus and I will be creating a plan to continue with supplemental learning. I will be doing personal literacy phone calls in the afternoons, and Ms. Ausmus is going to be doing math. She will be using Seesaw and possibly Zoom to connect as a class. Please make sure you are connected to our Seesaw! If you need help, please message us, and we can send you the information!

I will be starting my phone calls next week. Ms. Ausmus will be starting her formal teaching next week as well. Bear with us as we both figure out what it will look like!

If you forget what date and time your call is in the afternoon, you can click here or go to “Class Info” and click calendar.

For the rest of this week, please consider continuing with Mathletics, Raz Kids, and Epic! If you need any access codes to any of these websites, please let me know.

Welcome back to the official, yet unofficial schooling!

Thank you for bearing with us during the “pause” last week. Our division was hard at work trying to find the best plan for us. Going forward, these are some things you can expect:

  • I will be calling each of you to set up an individualized learning plan for your child.  My hope is that you can/would like to commit to a 1/2 HOUR A WEEK personal phone/Facetime/Zoom/Google session. (Your choice).
  • During this session, I will be one on one with just your child. You don’t even have to be there with them if you don’t want. I will be looking at their learning needs based on past assessment, and teaching them where they are at. I will make it as fun, personal, and engaging as possible. (I have decided to do the personal phone calls, because I’m not convinced that a “Zoom Room” will work for this age group.)
  • I will be using levelled books, Raz Kids assessments, and writing prompts for your child to work on. I will be dropping off some extra reading/writing materials at your house.
  • Each day, I will offer supplemental ideas for learning on the blog/Seesaw. These are completely optional. They are only if you would like to “home school” your child, and work on something else besides the 1/2 hour a week call.

Here is the Distance Learning Letter that they want all parents to read.

Do you have any questions? Please feel free to email me, or message me on Seesaw. I’m excited to hopefully speak to, and “see” your child again soon!

Hey everyone,

I gave everybody access to Epic yesterday so you can do it from home for free! Epic has a ton of reading, however it is not leveled for your child. Please use Raz Kids to work on leveled reading! I sent the students a passage to read under the “flight check” column!

We have been asked to take off this Friday to the Friday of next week. If we don’t have any distance learning directives after that, I will voluntarily send you guys some daily blog posts with things you can do at home to “homeschool” your child if you’d like.

For now, read lots with your child, play some math games with dice, and take the week!

Daily 5- I tested some of the kids on their reading to see where they are at.  I will be updating Raz Kids so you can ALL work on reading at home. I even sent the students a little reading test where they can read aloud into a microphone (on a device or computer) and I can let you know if your child is going up levels, or what they need to improve on.  As far as I know, teachers are going to continue working at school, but any extra stuff I send to you would be considered VOLUNTARY. I’m happy to do it, but there is no expectation that you complete it, and it is not for marks or anything!

Recess

Wow! What a world wind! I know everyone might be feeling some anxiety and stress around the covid19 situation, but I am hear to tell you, let’s try to stay calm. I am going to do everything I can to help!

For starters, if you haven’t heard, this Thursday is going to be our last day of class (for the time being) at Plainsview. From that point on, we are a bit unsure of how things will look. It sounds like marks will be officially input so that your child will end with whatever they have now. That said, we aren’t sure what optional distance teaching would look like, so I will keep you in the loop. I might do live videos of things that you can work on at home.

Ms. Parker is now subbing for Ms. Ausmus

Please feel free to add step parents/grandparents etc. You can print this if your child wasn’t here today!
